Before we get started, let’s all recognize the importance of December 11 – this is the 56th anniversary of the Beatles’ record company “Apple” signing its first musical act – the band called “Grapefruit.” To celebrate, we’re eating grapefruit today and we think you should, too.
Here’s another important note– our last 2023 subscriber-only Zoom is next Tuesday, December 19. Join us for our crazy year in review to make sure you didn’t miss any of the changes to Ohio public records law. If you’re not a subscriber, subscribe today! And, as always, this is a lunch webinar so be sure to order your meal here.
Secondly, this is our last edition of the year! We know, we know. As two Mondays from now is Christmas, we’re going to pick back up with the briefings in the new year. We hope that you’ll be able to soldier on without us. But Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone here at the Public Records Briefing!!
Exceptions A through ZZ
On this week's installment of Exceptions A through ZZ, we're covering a more rarely used exception to the Public Records Act. R.C. 149.43(A)(1)(c) protects all records relating to the statutory process through which an unmarried and unemancipated minor--that is, a minor still under her parents' control--may obtain a judge's approval for an abortion without parental consent. This exception covers records not only at the trial level, but also for any proceedings on appeal.
